Laptop won’t turn on at all, the charger gets noticeably hot, or the battery drains quickly even when the device is switched off? These are common symptoms of a short circuit on the motherboard. We locate it precisely and remove the cause. Repair usually takes 1–3 working days.
In brief: A short circuit on the motherboard is most often a damaged power component (e.g. a microchip) causing the laptop not to turn on at all. We locate the short circuit under a microscope, using an oscilloscope and laboratory power supplies, then replace the damaged component. Service available in Warsaw, repair usually takes 1–3 working days.
Our experience in removing short circuits
To locate short circuits we use oscilloscopes, laboratory power supplies and microscopes powerful enough that a trace the width of a human hair is clearly visible. With such equipment we pinpoint the exact damaged component instead of replacing entire groups of parts by guesswork.

When a short circuit can be repaired and when it cannot
Most short circuits result from a damaged, specific power microchip and can be located and repaired without major intervention on the board. It’s different, however, in the case of complete board burn-through with a visible hole or breakdown between board layers (a board usually consists of several, most often five, sometimes more layers) — such damage can theoretically be repaired, but in practice it’s too complicated and uneconomical, as it would require cutting the board and running new conductors between layers. In such cases we say so directly and propose motherboard replacement, for which — thanks to our suppliers and wholesale discounts — we can sometimes find a favourable price.
When you’re looking for short circuit removal
Usually people come to us who search online for: „laptop won’t turn on at all”, „charger gets very hot” or „motherboard short circuit Warsaw”. If you recognise your situation in these phrases, you’ll probably solve it right here with us.
Symptoms — when it’s worth checking the board for a short circuit
- Laptop doesn’t respond to the power button at all
- Charger or the laptop itself heats up even when not plugged in or working
- Battery drains despite the laptop being switched off
- Smell of burning from the casing
- Laptop stopped working suddenly, e.g. after connecting an external device
When there’s a short circuit, we always tell the client straight away whether it’s one damaged component that can be precisely replaced, or a case where the motherboard is burnt to such an extent that repair isn’t worthwhile. There’s no room here for 'let’s try and see’.

What happens if you delay the repair
A short circuit on the motherboard won’t fix itself, and further attempts to start the laptop can deepen the damage. Delaying usually ends with:
- The damage spreads to other power supply components
- The risk of permanent damage to the battery or other components increases
- A simple repair of one component can turn into the need to replace the motherboard
- The risk of thermal damage to other housing components increases
How short circuit removal works at our service centre
1. Free inspection
Using an oscilloscope and laboratory power supply, we locate the short circuit on the motherboard.
2. Verification under microscope
We examine the damaged area closely and identify the specific component responsible for the short circuit.
3. Replacement of the damaged component
We precisely desolder and replace the damaged microchip or other component responsible for the short circuit.
4. Testing and verification
We check that the laptop powers on and starts correctly, then pass it through our three-stage quality control.
Above, we describe how the process works in our service centre. This is not a DIY repair guide — locating and removing a short circuit requires specialist measuring equipment and extensive experience, so we recommend bringing your laptop to a service centre.

Frequently asked questions
How do you know a laptop has a short circuit on the motherboard?
This is confirmed by free inspection using an oscilloscope and laboratory power supply — we check current draw and locate the faulty component.
Can every short circuit be repaired?
Not every one. With complete board burn-through with a hole or a breakdown between layers, repair is too complex and uneconomical — in that case we recommend motherboard replacement.
Can a short circuit come back after repair?
If we repair the specific faulty component and the cause of the short circuit, the risk of recurrence is very low — that’s why we always locate the source of the problem thoroughly first.
How long does short circuit removal on a laptop motherboard take?
Repair usually takes 1–3 working days; in more complex cases we agree the timeframe individually after diagnosis.
How much does short circuit removal cost?
You’ll find current rates in the price list — we always provide an exact quote after free inspection.
Prices for all services can be found in our price list.
