Your laptop has just fallen and you’re not sure if it can still be saved? In the vast majority of cases — yes, as long as you react appropriately in the first few minutes. Inspection and repair quote usually takes 1–3 working days.
In short: whether it’s worth repairing a laptop after a fall depends primarily on the height of the fall and the condition of the casing. If it fell from a low height and the casing hasn’t shattered into tiny pieces — even if there’s a visible crack — repair almost always pays off. It’s worse if the laptop fell from a great height, e.g. down the stairs, or the casing broke into many pieces.
Most common causes of problems after a laptop fall
- Torn-out hinge — the weakest point of the casing, most often the left hinge breaks
- Cracked casing — usually around the corners or hinges
- Damaged screen — cracked screen, spots or no image
- Hard drive problem — laptop won’t start or restarts randomly
- Motherboard damage — the most serious but also rarest scenario with minor falls

What you can check yourself right after the fall
- Inspect the casing — is it only cracked in one place, or shattered into many small pieces. This makes a big difference in repair costs.
- Check the hinges — gently open and close the screen. If either hinge is torn out or loose, don’t force the movement to avoid damaging the screen cable running through that area.
- Check the screen — look for cracks in the glass, spots or discolouration.
- Try to start the laptop — if it turns on but freezes or restarts randomly, this is often a sign of a hard drive problem, not a casing issue.
- Remember the circumstances of the fall — from what height it fell and onto what surface. This genuinely affects the quote and scope of repair.
What NOT to do after dropping your laptop
- Don’t force the screen open or closed if the hinge is visibly torn out — you could further damage the screen cable
- Don’t try to glue the casing yourself with epoxy — a poorly done home repair often makes professional repair more difficult later
- Don’t ignore random restarts or boot problems — the longer you wait, the greater the risk of data loss
- Don’t assume straight away that the laptop is only fit for replacement — in most cases after a minor drop, casing restoration is perfectly sufficient
Most commonly after a drop, customers worry that the laptop is only fit for replacement. In practice, if it fell from a low height and the casing hasn’t shattered into tiny pieces, even with visible cracking it’s well worth repairing. We have all the necessary technology for this, including 3D printing of missing parts.

How we assess this during inspection
1. Casing assessment
We check whether the damage qualifies for restoration, or whether full casing replacement is necessary.
2. Screen and component testing
We check the screen, drive and other key components for damage caused by the drop.
3. Quote
We provide a fixed repair price, tailored to the actual extent of damage.
4. Customer decision
You decide whether we proceed with the repair — no pressure and no hidden costs.
The scope and duration of the repair depend on the laptop’s actual condition after the drop, determined during the inspection.

Frequently asked questions
Laptop fell and won’t turn on — what does this mean?
There could be several different causes, from a disconnected cable inside the casing to a problem with the drive or power supply. This requires diagnostics, which we perform during the free inspection.
Is it worth repairing a laptop after a drop, or should I buy a new one?
In most cases after a minor drop, repair is worthwhile — casing restoration is significantly cheaper than buying new equipment. The exception is very serious cases, e.g. a fall from a great height, where multiple components are damaged simultaneously.
Can I lose data from the drive after a drop?
It’s possible, especially if the laptop was running at the moment of the drop. If you notice problems with starting up or random restarts, it’s worth bringing the device in for diagnostics as soon as possible to minimise the risk of data loss.
How long does it take to assess a laptop’s condition after a drop?
The free inspection takes 5–15 minutes. Full diagnostics, if needed, takes 1–3 working days and is free if you decide to proceed with the repair.
The exact cost of repair after a drop depends on the extent of damage determined during the inspection. Current rates can be found in the price list.
