Your Acer laptop has started lagging during normal use, the browser with a few tabs open 'eats up’ all the resources, and games or graphics programs freeze without warning? In many cases, a RAM upgrade is all you need. At Apenfix, we check this first during a free inspection, and the upgrade itself usually takes 1–3 working days.
In short: Acer laptops — from the budget Aspire, through the gaming Nitro, to the slim Swift — respond well to RAM upgrades because they’re one of the easier brands to service. Before we add memory, though, we check whether it’s actually the bottleneck — sometimes the culprit is the drive, not a lack of RAM.
Our experience with RAM upgrades in Acer laptops
Acer is a brand that’s easy to repair — parts are available, and the design allows quick access to components. We’ve carried out RAM upgrades on models from the Aspire, Nitro and Swift series — including 3 documented in our system from recent months, covering all three lines. Aspire laptops are budget models, often used by students, that travel in backpacks daily and come through our diagnostics regularly. Nitro is gaming hardware, where a lack of RAM shows up fastest in games and during rendering. Swift models are slim — here we always check first whether the memory in a given version is even upgradeable or soldered permanently.

How to check if your Acer is short on RAM
Before you decide on an upgrade, check it yourself in a few seconds:
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc at the same time — Task Manager will open.
- Go to the Memory tab (Performance → Memory) and look at the usage graph.
- If you have, say, 8 GB of memory and 7.9 out of 8 is in use — nearly 100% on a daily basis — adding RAM will almost certainly help.
- If, on the other hand, you have 8 GB and only 4 is in use (or 16 GB with 10 used), the headroom is sufficient — the problem lies elsewhere, most often with the drive.
That’s why we always start with a free inspection (5–15 minutes) — so we only suggest a RAM upgrade when it will actually solve your Acer’s problem.
When you’re looking for help with RAM in an Acer
We get customers searching for answers to questions like: ’how to add RAM to Acer Aspire’, ’Acer Nitro freezes in games’, ’Acer Swift runs slowly, can I add memory’ or ’how much RAM do I need for an Acer laptop’. If this sounds familiar, you’re in the right place.
Signs that suggest it’s time to think about a RAM upgrade
- Graphics or video editing programs freeze or close on their own
- Games on Acer Nitro stutter or take ages to load, despite having a good graphics card
- Switching between several open applications takes noticeably long
- Opening programs that used to start quickly now takes many seconds
- Your Acer laptop has only 8 GB of RAM, and you use it for work, study or gaming whilst having multiple browser tabs open
Acer is one of the easier brands to service — access to memory is usually straightforward, and parts are readily available. However, we always start by checking the client’s Task Manager, because sometimes the laptop has spare RAM and the slowdown is caused by something else, most often the drive.

What happens if you delay a RAM upgrade
- Your Acer will become noticeably slower during everyday work or gaming
- The risk of data loss when programs freeze whilst working on files increases
- Frustration and wasted time on simple tasks build up day by day
- It may turn out that the culprit is the drive, not the RAM — the longer you wait, the greater the risk of its failure
How a RAM upgrade in an Acer works at our service centre
1. Free inspection
We check memory usage in Task Manager and assess whether a RAM upgrade will help your Acer. This takes 5–15 minutes.
2. Memory selection
We select RAM modules compatible with your specific Aspire, Nitro or Swift model, matched to your budget.
3. Installation
We work at a grounded workstation with an anti-static mat to keep components safe throughout the entire procedure.
4. Stability test
We check system stability under load, and when you collect the laptop you can confirm for yourself that it runs faster.
Repair time may vary depending on parts availability for your specific Acer model and service workload.

Frequently asked questions
Can every Acer laptop be upgraded with RAM?
Most Aspire and Nitro models have replaceable memory. In some slim Swift models the RAM is soldered permanently — we check this during the free inspection and tell you straight away whether an upgrade is possible.
How much RAM do I need for my Acer laptop?
Check your current usage in Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc). For 2026–2029, a comfortable amount is around 16 GB, with a minimum of 8 GB — especially in Nitro models used for gaming.
Will a RAM upgrade actually speed up my Acer?
Yes, if memory was genuinely the bottleneck. If the laptop has plenty of RAM and still runs slowly, the cause is usually something else, most often the drive — we check this during the inspection as well.
How long does a RAM upgrade in an Acer take?
Usually 1–3 working days, depending on the availability of suitable memory modules for the specific model.
Do I keep the old RAM?
If we’re adding an extra module, the old memory stays in the laptop and works together with the new one. If we’re replacing everything with higher capacity, we give the old modules back to the customer.
The exact cost of RAM upgrade in an Acer laptop depends on the model and chosen memory capacity. You’ll find current rates in the price list.
