You plug in your laptop, something inside is clearly drawing power, but the power button seems to do nothing — no response, no picture, no fan noise? This is a characteristic scenario pointing to the KBC circuit, also known as the EC controller — a small but crucial chip responsible for, among other things, handling the power button. We check this during a free inspection (5–15 minutes).
In short: if the laptop draws a steady current of around 0.3 amps and doesn’t respond to the power button at all, that’s a very characteristic sign pointing to a faulty KBC chip, processor, or graphics card — we check this with a programmer dedicated to that specific chip.
Our experience
We use a dedicated KBC microchip programmer to read its state, reprogram it, or, if necessary, prepare the ground for replacing a damaged chip. We work under a microscope using precision soldering stations, which allows us to safely remove the small, densely packed chip without damaging neighbouring components on the motherboard.

How we diagnose a faulty KBC chip
We connect the laptop to a laboratory 19V power supply and measure the current draw. If the laptop steadily draws a small current, for example 0.3 amperes, and it doesn’t change in any way after pressing the power button, that’s a typical pattern of damage to the KBC chip, processor or graphics card. For comparison: when the current rises gradually after pressing the button, e.g. from 0.3 to 1.5 amperes, that’s a good sign — the laptop is initialising.
When you need KBC chip repair
Most often, we receive laptops that appear completely 'dead’ — there’s no response when pressing the power button, even though the charging LED lights up normally, which confirms that the power supply itself isn’t the issue.
Objawy uszkodzenia KBC
- The power button doesn’t respond at all, even when the charger is plugged in.
- The keyboard or fan does not respond to any action.
- The indicator lights on the casing are on as normal, but the laptop still won’t start.
- Power draw remains constant during startup attempts.
A stable 0.3 ampere reading with no response to the power button is one of the most characteristic signals we see on the lab power supply. It indicates a problem with the KBC controller, processor or graphics card — the KBC programmer allows us to narrow this down quickly.

What happens if you delay
A laptop with a damaged KBC chip simply won’t start, so further use isn’t possible. There’s no risk of progressive damage here, but the longer a laptop sits unused, the harder it can sometimes be to source specific compatible parts for older models.
How KBC repair works at our service centre
1. Current draw measurement
We measure current draw on a lab power supply to confirm the characteristic fault pattern.
2. Chip readout with programmer
We use a KBC microchip programmer to check the chip’s state and response.
3. Reprogramming or replacement
Depending on the result, we reprogram the chip or prepare to replace it under a microscope.
4. Start-up test
We check whether the laptop responds correctly to the power button and completes the entire boot process.
Extended diagnostics, if needed, takes 1–3 working days. It’s free if you proceed with the repair — if you decide against it, the cost is agreed and quoted upfront.

Frequently asked questions
How is KBC different from a regular power issue?
When there’s a power supply issue, the laptop usually doesn’t draw any current at all. With a faulty KBC, current is drawn steadily, but nothing else happens when you press the power button.
Do you always have to replace the entire chip?
Not always — sometimes reprogramming the existing chip is enough, without physically replacing it.
Can a KBC problem also involve the processor or graphics card?
Yes, the same current draw pattern can point to several different chips, which is why full diagnostics are necessary to pinpoint the fault precisely.
Will I lose my data during KBC repair?
No, the work only involves the motherboard and has no effect on data stored on the drive.
How long does this repair take?
Usually 1–3 working days, depending on whether reprogramming is sufficient or chip replacement is necessary.
The cost depends on the scope of work — from reprogramming to replacing the KBC chip. Current rates can be found in the price list.
