Your laptop was working normally, and right after a Windows update something stopped working — sound, Wi-Fi, graphics card, or the whole system slowed down? This is one of the most common issues we see at our service centre in Warsaw. Below we explain where this comes from and what you can check before deciding to visit us.
In brief: problems after a Windows update are one of the most common reasons for visits to our service centre. Most often, reinstalling the driver is enough; sometimes a full system reinstallation is necessary. If symptoms persist after simple steps, it’s worth using our free inspection — it takes 5–15 minutes.
Most common causes of problems after an update
- The update didn’t install completely, e.g. due to the process being interrupted
- The new driver version works worse with a given laptop model than the previous one
- The system overwrote a previously manually installed, proven driver
- Conflict between the new driver and other system software
- Error in the update itself, independent of the laptop’s configuration

What you can check yourself
Before deciding to visit the service centre, it’s worth checking a few simple things. Go to Device Manager and see if any device (e.g. sound card, network card, or graphics card) shows a yellow exclamation mark — that’s a sign the driver isn’t working properly. You can also check if a newer driver update is available from the laptop manufacturer, which may have been released after the bug was fixed.
It’s also worth checking in Windows Update History whether the last update completed successfully or if an installation error appeared. If the problem appeared immediately after a specific update, Windows allows you to uninstall it — this is a safe step that sometimes solves the issue straight away.
What NOT to do
- Don’t install random drivers downloaded from unknown websites
- Don’t use automatic „driver optimisers” of unknown origin
- Do not force shut down your laptop during an update
- Do not modify the system registry unless you are certain what you are doing
- Do not delete the system partition yourself whilst trying to „fix” the problem
We receive the most reports precisely after Windows updates — it sounds illogical, but that’s how it works in practice. Usually reinstalling the drivers is enough, and if that doesn’t help, we proceed to a full system reinstallation.

How we diagnose this
1. Driver check
We determine which driver is malfunctioning after the update.
2. Driver reinstallation
We install the correct, proven version — sometimes older than the default one.
3. System reinstallation
If that doesn’t help, we install Windows from scratch.
4. Hardware component check
We rule out a hardware cause if the symptoms persist.
This guide is general in nature and does not replace professional diagnostics — if simple steps don’t help, we invite you for a free inspection.

Why Apenfix
Frequently asked questions
Can I roll back a Windows update myself?
Yes, Windows allows you to uninstall the latest update in system settings, which sometimes solves the problem straight away.
Do you always have to reinstall the entire system?
No, in many cases reinstalling the correct driver is enough. We only reinstall the system when that doesn’t help.
How do I know if the problem is a driver or a hardware fault?
A free inspection will show this most reliably — it takes 5–15 minutes and immediately points to the next steps.
Can I install an older driver myself?
Yes, but it’s worth downloading drivers only from the laptop or component manufacturer’s website to avoid installing incorrect software.
What if the problem still occurs after reinstalling the system?
Then we check the components — it’s a sign that the cause may be hardware-related, not software-related.
Current rates for inspection and driver repair can be found in our price list.
