The BIOS is usually treated as a diagnostic tool — a place where you check what’s happening with your laptop. But sometimes the BIOS itself, or rather its configuration, is the direct cause of a boot problem. Incorrect boot order settings, disk controller mode or Secure Boot parameters can block the system from starting, even though all the hardware is working fine. We’ll check this during a free inspection in 5–15 minutes.
In short: The BIOS can be not just a diagnostic tool, but also an independent cause of boot problems — most often through incorrect boot order, and less commonly through TPM or Secure Boot settings. If the BIOS itself is corrupted, a specialist programmer is needed.
Our experience
We work with BIOS and KBC programmers, which allow us to read, correct or, if necessary, reprogram the BIOS memory regardless of whether the laptop boots at all. We also have access to technical documentation for many models, which allows us to precisely configure disk controller parameters or secure boot mode without guesswork.

TPM and Secure Boot — rare, but real cause
TPM (Trusted Platform Module) and Secure Boot settings very rarely are a direct cause of boot problems, but it does happen, particularly after system updates or disk replacement. Changing these settings in the BIOS can help when the system refuses to start despite a working disk and correct boot order. However, these are settings that shouldn’t be tampered with without certainty about what exactly is being changed — incorrect configuration can, for example, block access to an encrypted disk.
When you’re looking for this service
- The laptop enters the BIOS menu on its own instead of booting the system, even though the disk is working.
- After replacing a disk or reinstalling the system, it won’t start without any obvious hardware failure.
- You need to change the boot order, for example to install the system from an external drive.
- The BIOS doesn’t respond, freezes or won’t start at all.
Symptoms worth observing
BIOS configuration problems rarely give clear symptoms — more often these are situations where „something’s wrong, but it’s unclear what”, for example the system starts more slowly than usual, the laptop sometimes enters the boot menu on its own, or changed settings simply stopped working after an update. It’s worth noting whether the problem appeared after some specific change — a new disk, an update or tampering with settings.
TPM and Secure Boot very rarely are the cause, but when they are, clients sometimes spend days looking for the culprit in the system before they come to us with a simple settings problem.

What happens if you delay
A simple incorrect BIOS setting usually doesn’t worsen over time — but attempts to 'fix’ it yourself through random setting changes can lead to a situation that’s harder to diagnose than the original problem, especially if you change several parameters at once and lose track of what the initial cause was.
How we handle this at our service centre
1. Current configuration review
We check the current BIOS settings and compare them with the recommended parameters for the specific model.
2. Drive visibility test
We check whether the drive is being detected correctly under different controller modes.
3. Settings correction
We correct the boot order and other parameters that were blocking the system from starting.
4. BIOS reprogramming if necessary
If the BIOS itself is corrupted, we use a programmer to restore it to working order.
Initial diagnostics are always free. Extended diagnostics (1–3 working days) are free if you proceed with the repair, and chargeable only if you decline — we quote the price upfront.

Frequently asked questions
Can I safely change BIOS settings myself?
Basic settings, like boot order, usually yes. Parameters related to TPM, Secure Boot or disk controller mode are better left to diagnostics, because an incorrect change can block access to data.
What if the BIOS doesn’t start at all?
Then we use a BIOS programmer, which allows us to read and repair the memory independently of the state the laptop is in.
Does changing BIOS settings affect data on the disk?
Changing settings itself doesn’t erase data, but some parameters (e.g. disk controller mode) can cause the disk to temporarily stop being visible — that’s why we make changes carefully.
Is this a common cause of boot problems?
Less common than disk failure, but common enough to be worth checking, especially after hardware replacement or system updates.
The exact cost depends on the scope of intervention needed. You’ll find current rates in the price list.
