HP laptop diagnostics in Warsaw — not sure what’s broken? Our free inspection takes 5–15 minutes and we carry it out whether or not you decide to go ahead with the repair. Extended diagnostics is free if we perform the repair.
In short: At our Warsaw service centre, we distinguish between two things. Free inspection takes 5–15 minutes, is always free of charge, and lets us determine what’s wrong with your HP. Extended diagnostics means full disassembly and motherboard measurements — takes 1–3 working days and is free if we carry out the repair. You only pay if you decide not to proceed with the repair.
Our experience — HP laptop diagnostics
At our service centre in Warsaw, we’ve carried out 13 HP laptop diagnostics. The models we see most often are from the Pavilion, Envy, EliteBook, ProBook and Victus series — including many second-hand ex-lease devices.

HP is one of the most frequently serviced brands — and that works in your favour
In terms of repair, HP is almost no different from Acer, Asus or most Windows laptops. The parts are very similar, with minor differences in the BIOS — on HP you enter with the F9 key, on Asus it’s usually F2. The more popular the laptop, the more of these devices come into the workshop.

For diagnostics, a brand’s popularity has real value. The more HP laptops we’ve worked on, the more data we have in our knowledge base — and that means more accurate initial assessment. Knowing the model and power draw, we can pinpoint the likely cause faster than with brands we see less often.
A separate case is ex-lease equipment — EliteBooks and ProBooks from the secondary market. With these, we always check whether the drive is encrypted with a corporate key, as this affects the possibility of data recovery.
Free inspection vs extended diagnostics — not the same thing
Most repair shops call what is really just a basic inspection 'diagnostics’. We distinguish between these two services to avoid any misunderstanding about the price and scope of work.
Free inspection
5–15 minutes. Always free. We connect the laptop to a lab power supply, measure current draw and determine the preliminary cause. Free regardless of whether you decide to proceed with the repair.
Rozszerzona diagnostyka
1–3 working days. Full disassembly, voltage measurements on the motherboard, circuit checks according to the service diagram. Free if we carry out the repair. Charged only if you decide not to proceed.
After the free inspection, the technician will always tell you directly whether the problem is obvious or whether extended diagnostics are needed. We always quote the price for extended diagnostics before carrying it out, and it’s fixed — even if we need to order an integrated circuit that costs more than the diagnostics itself.
When you’re looking for laptop diagnostics
You’ve found this page if you’re searching for answers to questions like: laptop won’t turn on what to do, what’s broken in my laptop, how much does laptop diagnostics cost or free laptop diagnostics Warsaw. These are all the same situation — we need to identify the cause before we can repair anything.
How the free inspection works step by step
The scope of the inspection depends on what you bring in. The most common case is a laptop that’s stopped turning on. In that case, we proceed as follows:
- We connect a laboratory power supply — almost all laptops run on 19 V. We check whether the laptop draws any voltage at all.
- We measure current draw — this is the most important diagnostic parameter.
- We press the power button and observe the changes — the way current draw increases and jumps tells us whether the laptop is going through initialisation.
- We compare the result with our database — based on the model and current draw, we estimate the cost and time for repair.
What current draw tells us — and why it reveals so much
The laptop’s behaviour after connecting the laboratory power supply alone allows us to narrow down the cause at this stage:
- The laptop doesn’t draw any current at all — probably a break in the power line, damaged input transistors, a faulty charging port or frozen BIOS.
- It draws maximum current, the short-circuit indicator lights up — we disconnect immediately. This means a short circuit on the motherboard in one hundred per cent of cases, usually on a high-current line.
- It draws constant, low current — e.g. 0.3 A — and doesn’t respond to the button — this is usually a more serious problem: the KBC circuit (EC microcontroller responsible for the keyboard and power-on, among other things), processor or graphics card.
- Current draw jumps when the button is pressed — 0.3 A, 0.5, 1 A, 1.5 A — that’s a good sign, the laptop is going through initialisation.
- Current draw stops at one point — e.g. stuck at 0.6 A. Most likely the BIOS has frozen. A full disassembly and EC controller reset often helps.
BIOS freezing happens particularly in laptops that haven’t been serviced for a long time — somewhere a contact fails and the system simply gets stuck. In such cases, a full disassembly and EC controller reset can bring the device back to life without replacing anything.
Our advantage: knowledge base instead of technician’s memory
What sets us apart is the fact that we record every repair in our own integrated knowledge base. In most repair shops, experience relies on what the technician remembers off the top of their head — and when they change jobs, all that experience leaves with them. With us, all technicians who have worked, are working, and will work here maintain a full technical knowledge base.

We also collect service schematics for popular models in the database. Our technicians know how to read them — some have higher education, including graduates of the Military University of Technology in electronics and telecommunications.
Extended diagnostics — what exactly we check
When the cause isn’t obvious, we disassemble the laptop and measure voltages on the motherboard. The starting point is always the same:
- Base voltages 3.3 V and 5 V — must be present on the board after connecting power. These voltages power the BIOS and EC controller. If they’re not there, the laptop physically cannot start.
- Voltages on inductors — we check them according to the service schematic, comparing with the values specified for a given power state of the board.
- Looking for breaks — if, for example, 5 V is missing, we trace the line to the power supply circuit and check what’s blocking it.
- BIOS verification — we have BIOS programmers, so we can desolder the memory chip and reprogram it.
- Individual component level — we can pinpoint a specific shorted capacitor or damaged component on the board.
Our diagnostics work like an X-ray. We can break a laptop down to its basic elements and check everything to know with absolute certainty what exactly is damaged. With laptops, most of the time is spent determining what’s broken — the actual repair is simpler, because you know which chip to replace.

How much does diagnostics cost
- Free inspection — always free, regardless of whether you leave the laptop at the repair centre.
- Extended diagnostics with repair — free of charge, included in the service.
- Extended diagnostics without repair — charged according to the price list. We always provide the price before starting work.
- The extended diagnostics fee is fixed, even if we need to order more expensive parts during the fault verification process.

Why Apenfix
Frequently asked questions
Is HP laptop diagnostics free?
Free inspection — yes, always and with no obligation. Extended diagnostics is free if we carry out the repair; it’s only charged if you decide not to proceed with the repair.
How long does diagnostics take?
The free inspection takes 5–15 minutes — you can wait. Extended diagnostics usually takes 1–3 working days, as it requires complete disassembly and measurements on the motherboard.
How do I enter the BIOS on an HP laptop?
Usually with the F9 or F10 key during startup. That’s the first diagnostic step when the system won’t boot.
I have an ex-lease EliteBook — what should I watch out for?
With second-hand business equipment, we also check whether the drive is encrypted with a corporate key. Without the recovery key, it’s practically impossible to retrieve data from such a drive — we tell you this upfront.
Do you also repair motherboards after diagnostics?
Yes. We have microscopes, a soldering station and BIOS programmers, as well as service schematics for popular models. We can identify and replace the specific faulty component on the motherboard.
Prices for all services can be found in our price list.
